The Old Road

Just a little ways off the interstate

There once was a farm where I was born

Now all that remains is a stone fireplace

That stands alone

Out on the old road

And now we live in a six-lane world

With an exit sign to every door

And a freeway where the sun always shines

I guess it's for the best but there's a price for progress

And I wonder at what we've left behind

And the old road don't get travelled much anymore

And the old road may be slow

But sometimes just for my peace of mind

I'll take a ride out on the old road

These city streets are where I live

But you know they never could give

The peace I knew as a child

And that's the way it's always been

Where you are from where you've been

And a longing for something left behind

(Chorus)

The water still flows over the old waterfall

                        Just like it did before

But now there's no one around anymore

                        To hear it fall...

And the old road don't get travelled much anymore

And the old road is way too slow

But sometimes nothing eases my mind

Like a ride out on...the old road
