Somebody's Got To Be Listening

There's a poet on Hill Street

That nobody knows

He works all alone

His words might change the world

And he could shout ‘em from the mountaintop

Til his voice gives way

And he wonders when he's gone

Will his work just fade away

            Somebody's got to be listening

            Somebody's got to care

            He's lookin' for a connection

            Is anybody there

There's dishes out in the desert

Looking at the night time sky

They're trying to make contact

With the other side

And there could be a master race

Across the great divide

Sending us their greetings

And they might just go on by

            Somebody's got to be listening

            Somebody's got to care

            We're lookin' for a connection

            Is anybody there

And so I bring my love to you

                        Unguarded and brand new

But are you ever gonna here the song

                        My heart sings for you

            Somebody's got to be listening

            Somebody's got to care

            I'm lookin' for a connection

            Is anybody there
