Last Summer

Everybody asks about you

They wonder how have you been

And I swear I don't know

What to tell them

The breeze still fills the holly tree

Where we carved our names that day

But it looks so forlorn

Now it only seems to say

We'll never be the way we were

            The way we were

            Last summer

It's calm all along the waterfront

The sea gulls dip and play

As I fade into thoughts

Of a not to distant day

When the world spun around us

Like we were the eye of the storm

Oh why couldn't it last

Why couldn't we go on

            Just the way we were

            The way we were

            Last summer

I hope you'll keep the love we made

                        With you forever

And in time we'll both forget...September

                        And just remember

            The way we were

            The way we were

            Last summer
