The By-Pass

She punches a clock with a fist made of iron

Workin' day and night for a family of five

Her heart's beatin' hard but harder she cries

For a man on the by-pass with troubles behind

She's wakin' up tired and no rest inside

And goin' to be with him gone and alone on her mind

Some selfish thief tried to steal away her pride

From turnin' her cheek to a sweeter side

            Now I'm one to talk

He is one to walk through the years

            I'm one to talk

He's turnin' his back on her tears

She's drivin' her life through the rain all night

Searchin' for a sign in some motel light

Her heart's beatin' hard but harder she cries

For a man on the by-pass with trouble behind

            Now I'm one to talk

He is one to walk through the years

            I'm one to talk

He's turnin' his back on her tears

People keep livin' and dyin' outta love

Hopin' and prayin' for somebody to touch

Time changes times but changes can't hide

A man on the by-pass with troubles behind

(Chorus)

(Chorus)

Now he's turnin' back to her tears

She punches a clock with a fist made of iron...
